A fractional CTO in Waco and Central Texas

Derek Tonkin’s practice is based in Waco and works with law firms, clinics, manufacturers, and service companies in Central Texas and elsewhere.

Based here. Not limited to the county line.

The practice is in Waco. The firms it is built for are the ones that already make a place run: law offices, dental and medical practices, plants, and service companies with crews on the road. Some of those are in Central Texas. Some are not. Distance is not the interesting constraint. Whether someone is making technology decisions on purpose is.

Remote work is the default. A video call and a straight description of the systems are enough for the Operating Brief. Travel is for the times when the room matters — a server closet next to the compressor, an imaging PC in a hall, a dispatch desk that is also the break room.

What local does not mean

It does not mean a claim to be the IT department for the city, and it does not mean a list of client logos. It means the person writing the brief lives in this region and is used to businesses that are not waiting on a coastal software market to notice them.

If the firm is here, or if it is somewhere else and the problems rhyme, the form is the same.

The Operating Brief

Start with the facts, not a sales call.

A written technology assessment. Free. Nothing is sold alongside it, and nothing starts until you have read it and asked for more.
